Key Takeaways
Skydiving in Canada is best enjoyed from May to October, when dropzones are open and conditions are favorable. Summer offers warm, consistent weather and long days, though it’s also the busiest time of year. Spring and fall bring cooler air, smaller crowds, and stunning scenery, especially in October’s autumn colors. Mornings often mean calmer conditions and fewer delays; afternoons provide warmer air and golden light. Weather is always a factor, so be prepared for possible delays or rescheduling. For a unique experience, October sunrise skydives combine crisp air with unforgettable views.

skydiving

When it comes to skydiving, timing makes all the difference. The season, the time of day, and even the weather overhead can completely shape your experience. If you’re planning to skydive in Canada, it’s important to know that most jumping operations are seasonal.

Most first-time tandem jumpers prefer to skydive during the milder, sunnier months, when the weather is more predictable and the views are at their most stunning. Whether you’re dreaming of summer skies or breathtaking fall colors, knowing when to book can help you make the most of your adventure.

Best Time of Year to Skydive in Canada

What is the best month for skydiving? At Parachute Ottawa, the skydiving season typically runs from May through October. We kick things off as soon as spring conditions allow and keep jumping until the fall air turns too cold. Each part of the season has its own perks:

  • Prime Season (June–August)
This is when you’ll find warm, stable weather and long days with plenty of sunshine. It’s the most reliable stretch for consistent jumping and also our busiest time of year. Since summer is when everyone wants to skydive, we strongly recommend booking in advance.
  • Extended Season (May–October)
For those who prefer smaller crowds, the extended season could be ideal. Early spring and fall bring slightly cooler temperatures, but the views are spectacular, especially in October, when fall colors blanket the landscape. The air tends to be crisp and refreshing, adding to the thrill of freefall. These quieter months can make your jump feel even more personal and relaxed.

Said simply, summer gives you the most consistent conditions but spring and fall offer unique scenery and chiller vibes.

Best Time of Day to Skydive

The time of day you skydive in Ontario can also influence the feel of your jump. No matter when you book, plan to spend at least three to four hours with us to allow for check-in, training, waiting for your flight, and of course, the jump itself.

What time of day is best to go skydiving? There isn’t necessarily one “best” time, but each part of the day offers something different:

  • Morning Jumps
For morning jumps, the air tends to be cooler and calmer, especially during the heat of summer. Fewer delays usually occur earlier in the day, and if weather causes a temporary hold, morning reservations are first in line to go once conditions improve. For those looking for something truly spectacular, Parachute Ottawa offers sunrise tandem skydives in October, combining glowing autumn skies with breathtaking aerial views. The early bird really does get the worm!
  • Afternoon Jumps
Prefer a slower start to your day? Afternoon jumps let you sleep in and take your time. Temperatures are usually warmer by this point, and while the skies are gorgeous, afternoons are also the busiest part of the day. This can sometimes mean longer waits, especially if weather delays stack up. That said, there’s nothing quite like freefalling in the golden light of a late summer afternoon.

Weather Considerations

One of the most important things to understand about skydiving is that it’s entirely weather dependent. And just as important as knowing the best times to go is knowing when not to skydive. High winds, low clouds, or rain can all cause delays. Sometimes the weather clears quickly, allowing us to resume; other times, it may require rescheduling for another day.

Another factor to consider is the temperature difference at altitude. Even if it’s a warm 25°C (77°F) on the ground, once you climb several thousand feet higher, it can feel noticeably cooler. Dressing in layers is always a good strategy.

Special Highlight: October Sunrise Skydives

If you’re looking for something unforgettable, October brings a special opportunity: sunrise tandem skydives. On select days in 2025 – October 10, 11, 12, 24, 25 and 26 – you can witness the magic of watching the sun rise while soaring thousands of feet in the air! Combine that with the fiery reds and golds of autumn foliage, and you’ve got a once-in-a-lifetime experience. These limited spots fill quickly, so early booking is essential.

Other Tips & Considerations

Beyond timing and weather, a few simple choices can make your skydive more comfortable:

  • What to Wear
Stick with fitted, athletic-style clothing that allows you to move freely. Closed-toe sneakers are a must. If you have long hair, secure it in a low braid or bun so it doesn’t whip around in freefall.
  • Eating Beforehand
Don’t skip meals! Eat a light, healthy snack similar to what you’d have before exercising. Skydiving on an empty stomach can increase your chance of feeling queasy. You will want to stay hydrated as well. But remember, no alcohol before your skydive.

Let’s Jump

The best time to skydive in Canada depends on what you want out of the experience. Summer offers warm, reliable weather and the excitement of peak season. Fall brings stunning colors, a quieter dropzone, and even the chance to watch the sunrise from 9,000 feet. Mornings tend to be smoother, afternoons more relaxed. Whatever you choose, one thing is certain: skydiving is an adventure you’ll never forget.
